Balambat Irrigation Canal

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Improvement of Balambat Irrigation Canal is a transformative initiative aimed at modernizing one of Lower Dir’s critical irrigation networks. Spanning approximately 10 km of newly constructed canal after dismantling the old system, the project enhances water conveyance efficiency, reduces seepage losses, and ensures a reliable supply of irrigation water to the agricultural belt. This upgrade directly supports thousands of farmers, reinforcing the backbone of the region’s agrarian economy.

The scope of works includes rehabilitation, widening, and lining of the canal, along with strengthening embankments, improving headworks, and installing advanced regulating structures for better water management. With an estimated cost of PKR 2–3 billion, the project reflects a strong commitment to sustainable agricultural development and optimized use of water resources.

Designed for delivery within 24–30 months, the upgraded canal will significantly improve crop yields, support food security, and uplift local communities. By modernizing the irrigation infrastructure, this project ensures long-term agricultural resilience and contributes to the socio-economic growth of Lower Dir and the surrounding areas.
